Balti Spice is a type of Kashmiri curry, and is very popular internationally in northern Pakistan and England. Our Balti Spice is a robust blend of our in-house products: garlic, brown mustard, cinnamon, cumin, cardamom, cloves, fennel, fenugreek, star anise, cilantro, anise seed, bay leaves, coriander, red pepper, ajwain seed, and kalonji.
It is usually cooked in a flat-bottomed, wok-like dish known as a karahi (i.e. bali dish). Balti Spice is used in curries, meat, chicken, stews, rice, and soup. Balti curries are traditionally eaten with naan or other breads.
While Balti Spice originated in the province of Baltistan, northern Pakistan, it spread widely to England starting in 1971. “Balti houses” sprang up in Birmingham, England, and became a popular social dining area, similar to Ramen restaurants.
Our recipe is lovingly hand-mixed from spices freshly ground in our spice shop.
