Baharat, Arabic for “Spice”, is a special, all-purpose-blend widely used in Middle Eastern cuisine to enliven simple dishes. Baharat has been described as being a version of curry, but with a milder and more fragrant aroma. It tastes savory and slightly sweet, with a bit of lingering heat.
Just a pinch of this spice adds depth and flavor to sauces, soups, grains, vegetables, stews, and meat. Specialty dishes utilizing Barahat include Koshari (Egypt’s national dish) and Chicken Mahboos (Bahrain’s national dish).
This spice has its origins in many locations. We hand-mix our Baharat recipe from spices freshly ground in our spice shop.
